Biography

Born in Argentina, I’ve lived and worked in New Zealand as
a full time artist since 2005. Most of my work deals in some
way with devotion.

As an Argentinean I’ve grown up with devotional figures as a daily part of life; many of my works concentrate on taking traditional ex voto and retablo formats and bringing them into the 21st century.

Each of these images helps me keep alive my spiritual ties with the passion and fervour of my homeland. I specialise in painting on recycled wood, and hand cut each piece as part of my artistic process. I initially started using wood as my prime material to reflect the media of traditional religious art, alluding to its initial appearance in churches before it made its popular appearance in people’s homes. It has now become a unique part of who I am as artist. I use canvas when painting my popular Mexican Day of the Dead (Día de los muertos) skulls, which are often requested as commissions.
